Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 7, 2026
At TubeCurator, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (gettubecurator.com).
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Personal Information
- Account Information: TubeCurator uses Google Sign-In exclusively. When you sign in with your Google account, we collect your basic profile information (name, email address, and profile picture) to create your TubeCurator account profile.
- YouTube Data: When you connect your YouTube account, we access your subscriptions and channel information via the YouTube Data API to provide our core features. We do not store your Google password.
1.2 Usage and Technical Data
- Usage Statistics: We collect anonymous data regarding your focus sessions, including focus minutes, session frequency, and streaks, to provide you with insights into your viewing habits.
- Gaze Focus Analytics: If you use the ARKit-powered 'Deep Focus' feature, we collect anonymous focus scores (% of session spent looking at the screen) to provide retention analytics.
- Shield Reflections: If you choose to use the 'Reflections' feature, we store your self-reported feedback (e.g., whether a bypass was 'worth it' and the reason provided) to help you track your progress.
- API Usage Activity: We monitor the frequency and type of requests made to our backend and third-party APIs (including the YouTube Data API) to ensure system stability and enforce usage quotas.
- Diagnostics: We collect anonymous crash logs and performance metrics (via Firebase Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring) to improve app stability.
1.3 Camera Data & Face Tracking
- Deep Focus Tracking: TubeCurator uses Apple's ARKit and your device's camera to monitor your gaze during video playback when the 'Deep Focus' feature is enabled.
- Privacy Assurance: TubeCurator does not record, store, or transmit any images, video, or identifiable biometric data from your camera. All processing required to determine your focus state is performed 100% on-device and is discarded immediately after the focus score is calculated.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the TubeCurator service.
- To sync your curated channels and playlists across devices via Firebase.
- To manage your premium subscription status via Apple StoreKit.
- To monitor system performance, prevent service abuse, and enforce rate limits for system stability.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
TubeCurator does not share, transfer, sell, or disclose your Google or YouTube user data (such as your subscriptions or playlists) to any third parties. Your data is used exclusively within the app to provide the core curation and playback features.
4. Data Storage and Security
We use Firebase (a Google service) for authentication and data storage. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information.
5. Third-Party Services
TubeCurator integrates with:
- YouTube Data API: Used to fetch video and channel data. Your use of this feature is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
- Revoking Access: You can revoke TubeCurator's access to your YouTube data at any time via the Google Security Settings page.
- Firebase: Used for backend services (Auth and Firestore).
- Apple StoreKit: Used for processing in-app subscriptions.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your personal information only as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app settings.
7. On-Device Storage & Local Data
TubeCurator and its third-party service providers (including Google/Firebase) may store data locally on your device to provide core app functionality. This includes:
- Authentication Tokens: Secure credential tokens issued by Google Sign-In are stored on-device to keep you signed in between sessions. These function similarly to cookies and persist until you sign out or delete the app.
- Cached App Data: Channel metadata, video information, and feed data may be temporarily cached on your device to improve performance and reduce unnecessary network requests.
- Firebase SDK Local Storage: Firebase services (Authentication, Firestore) use local device storage to persist session state, synchronize data across devices, and support SDK performance monitoring. This is functionally similar to browser cookie storage.
- App Preferences: Settings such as your focus session preferences, notification permissions, and onboarding state are stored locally on your device using standard iOS system storage (UserDefaults).
- No Advertising Cookies: TubeCurator does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party marketing trackers. We do not serve ads.
You may clear all locally stored data at any time by signing out of the app or deleting the app from your device entirely.
